"5 tips to make a healthy Plant Based plate"
When trading in meat for a Plant Based Diet many people don't know where to start. Well here are five tips to start you along your journey:
Make a colorful plate- the more colorful the plate, the healthier the plate. I am not talking about dark brownish- green and brown and a little orange, I mean bright colors! Purple, a beautiful vibrant orange, yellow, and a dark robust green. When your plate is full of dull colors it lacks important nutrition dense food.
Have some fruit on the side- We do not eat enough fruit by any means. It’s full of fiber and keeps your bowels flowing, if your colon is clean so are you. Once your done with dinner instead of having a large glass of Bottle Juice or Tea have a raw juice, eat an apple, a pear, peach, plum or whatever but substitute a glass of Juice for a piece of fruit.
Use Herbs and Spices- Adding Cilantro on top of a your veggie burger or sandwich is more than a beautiful garnish, it eliminates gas, Ginger which I talk about often is a digestaid, The Curcumin in Tumeric which is what gives Curry it’s color is anti-inflammatory and is also known as a Cancer preventative. Garlic is just wonderful as an antibiotic and if you listened to my podcast last week when I talked about the 8 herbs everyone should have in their home, at least the first 4-5 herbs are cabinet herbs which if used on a regular bases can aid in building great health!
Something on your plate should be raw- Every meal, every time you eat, you should be eating at least one thing that has not been heated, a salad of raw veggies, raw juice as I said before, again a piece of fruit. In fact, if you can get two or three things that have not been placed over heat, you’re in great shape. There are many, many raw desserts you can have if you need something sweet. Check out betterhealthregimen.com for a few raw dessert recipes as those are my favorite because I myself truly enjoy sweets but I enjoy my health more so I have to make sure I combine the two in a way that satisfies my craving and my bodies wellness.
Cover your plate with Vegetables, Fruits, Beans and Grains. If you must have meat, which I do not recommend make sure it’s minimal and DO NOT EAT MEAT WITH EVERY MEAL!!!!!! DO NOT EAT DAIRY WITH EVERY MEAL! Neither of these are necessary to make you full or healthy but if you cover your plate with Beans and Greens which are two of the most nutrient dense foods on the planet, you are on your way to consistently eating a healthy plate!
