"5 Healthy Habits"
Are you a Yogi? Do you know all the color Chakras? Maybe you go on Spiritual Mountain hikes once a month to center yourself. Well good for you but for the rest of us the struggle is real. I understand that attempting to fit a healthy lifestyle into the hustle and bustle of everyday life can be challenging. I find that it's best if you start off doing adding things into your regimen one by one. Here are five simple habits that will help you on your journey to Health and Wellness.
1. Catch some Z's:
Yes I understand, you've gotta grind but sleep is not at all overrated. Lack of sleep can lead to obesity, poor mood and disease. People who get between 5-8 hours of sleep a night have more energy, think clearer and are more likely to maintain a healthy weight. If you are having trouble sleeping be active during the day, take a shower before bed or have some Chamomile and Catnip tea to calm the nerves but by all means get some sleep!
2. Stretch:
Stretching is so simple but many of us forget to do it, myself included. If your having joint pain or back pain it's a sign that you need to change your diet but also that you need to stretch. It was once explained to me like this, "Cats, Dogs and most animals don't move if they've been in one position for a long time without stretching, so why do you?"
3. Go For A Walk:
Walking is an awesome exercise, if you walk swinging your arms or with small weights you will work out every part of your body. It's the easiest way to get active, you can walk between breaks at your 9 to 5 or you can walk to the park. In fact if you are overweight or dealing with an illness you shouldn't do heavy activity (running, power lifting etc) right away because you are highly acidic. Being active creates acid in the body and in that condition it can lead to acid reflux or heartburn.
4. Drink Water:
The average adult should be drink between 32oz to a Gallon of water a day. Sounds like a lot but it's a necessity for good health. Dehydration leads to headaches, brain fog, diarrhea, fever the list goes on and on. Invest in a good Water bottle and some Steam Distilled Water, you'll be glad you did.
5. Breath:
Breathing may be done for us involuntarily by our wonderful body but do you ever breath on purpose? If you paid attention to your breath I am sure you will find that sometimes you don't breath at all. We tend not to breath during stressful situations or when working out. Proper breathing helps bring oxygen into the Blood Stream and to our Brain, it also helps to relieve stress and calm the nerves. Books like "The Breathing Book, Good Vitality and Health through Breath Work" by Donna Farhi has some great breathing practices.
That's it, if you make these five things a habit you will see your health improve and WILL be inspired to seek out more healthy habits. Until next time, Peace!
